Black Adam (2022) Movie Review Featuring Dewayne “The Rock” Johnson. DC Comics Movie Adaptation.

To say that the Warner Brothers DC movie Universe has been a repeated disappointment would be an understatement. Even the “best” of the DC movie universe has been underwhelmingly lackluster (I’m looking at you Wonder Woman and Aquaman) while the worst of it has been abysmal (Batman Superman Dawn of Sadness). Warner Brothers/DC needed a homerun, fun, action packed smash hit and finally got it (mostly) from Black Adam starring Dewayne “The Rock” Johnson in the titular role.
That’s not to say that the Black Adam movie doesn’t have its problems. There are two utterly pointless characters: Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) and Atom Smasher (Noah Cintineo) and Hawkman as played by Aldis Hodge left a lot to be desired in the costume design department. The plot also left a lot to the imagination, especially when concerning the Crown of Sabbac. And the Justice Society of America… well… they were in way over their heads and certainly appeared as the antagonists rather than the heroes for most of the movie. However, Dewayne Johnson more than makes up for any short comings as Black Adam and Pierce Brosnan was tremendous as Dr. Fate.
Black Adam was virtually all action from the start. From the moment Teth Adam was released from his tomb/prison, he was walking destruction, annihilating anything and anyone in his path. Black Adam was the bad ass Superman we all needed. I was pleasantly surprised that they kept a lot of the Shazam/Captain Marvel mythos surrounding Black Adam as earlier information about the film seemed to suggesting it was staying far away from the Shazam movies which would have been a far cry from the comic book version of Black Adam.
The movie ends with a sort of redemption for Teth Adam/Black Adam and SPOILER ALERT the worst kept secret in movies is the post credit scene which sets up an eventual showdown between Dewayne Johnson’s Black Adam and Henry Cavill’s Superman. I just hope we don’t find out Black Adam’s mother’s name was Martha.
